HDMA, an affiliate of the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association, has named Jack Shaffer, president and chief operating officer of Bergstrom, 2011 chairman of the HDMA Board.
He succeeds Dennis Michels, President and CEO of Link Manufacturing, who served as HDMA chairman in 2009 and 2010. Shaffer was elected during the fall 2010 board of governors meeting in Dearborn, Mich.
Shaffer has served on the HDMA board since 2005 and has been a member of its executive committee since 2008. He plays an active role in the HDMA board's strategic planning group and has been a strong participant in the association's affairs. He is an active member of the MEMA Government Affairs Committee, the HDMA Strategic Energy Group, and a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum, where he currently serves as 2010 vice-chairman.
Elected to the position of 1st vice-chairman was Patrick Cavanagh, president and CEO of Williams Controls. A member of the HDMA board since 2008, Cavanagh has served as 2nd vice-chair and as a director. He is a member of the HDMA board's strategic planning group and a member of the MEMA board of Directors. He is a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum and is an active participant with MEMA's government affairs office, making regular visits with elected officials on behalf of the industry.
Elected to the position of 2nd vice-chair is Timothy Myers, president of Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products. In this new role, Myers joins the HDMA executive committee and serves on the strategic planning group. He and Alcoa are active participants in HDMA and MEMA government affairs, association events, councils and activities. Myers is also a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum.
New directors elected to the HDMA board are:
Gary Gerstenslager, president and CEO of Hendrickson. Gerstenslager and Hendrickson are active in HDMA events and councils; he is also a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum.
Harry (Butch) Sumpter, president and CEO of Phillips and Temro Industries. Sumpter is an active participant in association activities and is also a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum.
Elected to additional terms on the HDMA board are:
Ronald Parker, chairman, president and CEO of Indianhead Industries. Parker and Indianhead's MGM Brake are active in association activities and councils and is an active participant in MEMA government affairs on behalf of the CV industry.
Pedro Ferro, president of Marmon Highway Technologies, Commercial Vehicle Undercarriage group. Ferro and Marmon HT are active in HDMA activities and councils and he is also a member of the Heavy Duty Business Forum.
The 16-member board is responsible for the strategic direction, performance, and member satisfaction of the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association, representing 165 member commercial vehicle supplier companies to the government and CV industry.
