The National Transportation Safety Board will look at hazmat cargo accidents at a public board meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Washington, DC.

The NTSB will be reviewing two accidents where errors in cargo transfer led to loss of life, injuries and extensive property damage.
In Whitehall, Mich., on June 4, 1999, a tank truck cargo of a sodium hydrosulfide solution was introduced into a storage tank containing ferrous sulfate. The reaction between the different
chemicals produced a toxic gas that killed the truck driver and caused over $400,000 in damages.
A similar accident on November 19, 1998, at a Ford plant in Louisville, Ky., involving a liquid mixture of nickel nitrate/phosphoric acid and sodium nitrate resulted in the evacuation of about 2,400 people from the plant and surrounding businesses and caused over $190,000 in damages.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at 9:30 am. in the NTSB's new Boardroom/Conference Center located at 429 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC.
