This year's History Channel Great Race made a stop in Walcott, Iowa, to refuel at Iowa 80 Truckstop. Racers were given free gasoline, courtesy of Iowa 80 Truckstop and its sister corporation CAT Scale Company.
"Drivers and local residents really enjoyed seeing all of the antique vehicles." said Jack Horan, general manager of the well-known truckstop.
It took approximately two hours to refuel all of the vehicles. Most were at the truckstop for 15-20 minutes and then hit the road again.
More than 100 pre-1950s vehicles entered in the road rally that began in Boston, on June 11, 2000 and ended in Sacramento June 24. The course took racers over 4,400 miles and 14 days of directions, using nothing more than a clock, clipboard and the provided daily instructions. No atlases, calculators or other aides were permitted.
CAT Scale Company participated in the race from Peoria, Ill., to Grand Island, Neb., with their 1938 Kenworth, the only semi in the race.
