General Motors says 2000 should be another good year for commercial vehicle sales. The company said January sales of medium duty commercial vehicles were 39% above January 1999 deliveries.
The W-Series Low Cab Forward led the surge with January sales of 446 units, up 405% from January 1998.
GM's 1999 deliveries were up 19.8% from 1998. Its light truck volume increased 4.8%. The company credited implementation of the Medium Duty Business Center and a new order management system with part of last year's success. With ongoing innovations such as the new Duramax Diesel Engine, Allison 2000 and 2400 Series transmissions, and Eaton Autoshift, "this year is showing indications of positive movement for light and medium duty," GM said.
