GE And SAIC to Launch Smart Shipping Container

General Electric Co., Stamford, Conn., and Science Applications International Corp. have agreed to jointly develop an integrated system to protect shipping containers.
One element of the system, the GE VeriWise trailer tracking system, is already in use on some GE TIP lease and rental trailers. SAIC is based in San Diego, Calif.
SAIC's Security and Transportation Technology business unit and GE's Equipment Services division have independently developed technologies for monitoring and tracking containers and other assets. The companies intend to integrate these technologies in a system tracks as well as detering, detecting and reporting intrusion attempts.
GE and SAIC will design system around U.S. Customs guidance for expedited clearance and the business requirements of the global shipping industry.
