In an effort to save $270,000, New Jersey may close down two rest areas on Interstate 80 at the Pennsylvania border and on I-295 at the Delaware border
, according to reports by Bloomberg. There is good news, however; parking areas will stay open to trucks at the facilities.

During a hearing last week for the state's Senate Budget and Appropriations committee, Gov. Chris Christie's transportation commissioner, James Simpson, told the committee that the state doesn't have the funding to maintain the facilities, Bloomberg reports. Simpson was presenting the transportation department's $1.24 billion budget for the next fiscal year.

As part of the change, the state will lay off 18 maintenance personnel, the news service reports. The state legislature is expected to hold hearings on the proposal, and the budget will be in place by July 1.
