More than 600 Freightliner FLN and Cargo trucks and more than 500 Freightliner Argosy units have been recalled.

The 604 FLN and Cargo units made between November 1997 and May 1999 equipped with dual steering, the steering column pinch bolts may be under-torqued or missing. Dealers will inspect for the presence of the required fasteners, install fasteners that are missing, and retorque to specifications.
On the 538 Freightliner Argosy cabovers made between July 1998 and May 1999, the cigarette lighter may be too close to the floorboard. An object on the floor could accidentally hold the cigarette lighter in, resulting in overheating with the possibility of a dash fire. Dealers will replace the cigarette lighter element with one that has a peripheral ring and pushbutton that prevents accidental activation. The circuit protection also will be changed from a breaker to a fuse.
Owner notification for both recalls was supposed to begin last month. If you don't receive the free fix within a reasonable time, call Freightliner at 1-800-547-0712.
