Freightliner Trucks will sponsor Anvil's Third Annual Get SMART Gala Event, taking place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Holocene in Portland, Ore.
The gala is intended to raise community awareness and recruit volunteers for the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) reading program. Freightliner's financial partner, DaimlerChrysler Services Truck Finance, is sponsoring a silent auction at the event.
"The SMART reading program is a proven, necessary and wonderful community-driven program for the children of Portland and the state of Oregon," said Mark Lampert, senior vice president of sales at Freightliner LLC. "We are happy to be this year's SMART Gala official sponsor. It will be a great venue for recruiting new volunteers while spreading the word on how the SMART reading program assists the children of our community."
Lampert added, "As a company that employs over four thousand employees right here in the Portland metropolitan area, we highly encourage our local workforce to participate in the SMART literacy program, giving back to the community in which we all live and work."
