Freightliner Trucks will ramp up production of its Coronado Class 8 owner-operator truck in June,
resuming production that was suspended when truck sales plummeted.
The Coronado, introduced in late 2000, will be built at Freightliner's Portland, Ore., truck plant.
Coronado combines retro and contemporary styling. The truck's long hood, set-forward front axle, dual cab-mounted stacks and bolt-on fenders attest to its traditional roots. Running boards incorporate polished aluminum fuel tanks, while teardrop-shaped marker lights run across the top of the cab and along the sides of the cab and sleeper.
The truck features a premium Chaparral interior package as standard, with a noise abatement package for a quiet cab. It is available with the 70-Inch Raised Roof SleeperCab as well as the 70-Inch Mid-Roof XT (Extra Tall) SleeperCab. Freightliner also offers a Coronado Day Cab for bulk and regional haulers.
A selection of Detroit Diesel and Caterpillar engines to 600 horsepower is available, with the standard engine the 500-horsepower Detroit Diesel Series 60.
Freightliner will continue to produce the Classic and Classic XL heavy-duty trucks, which remain very popular among independent truckers.
