Freightliner Trucks has announced four cities that will be recognized as its Hardest Working Cities for 2016.
This year’s winners will be New York City, Charlotte, Edmonton and Seattle-Tacoma. Freightliner created the award to honor cities spearheading community growth and innovation.

THe OEM said It came up the idea after an economic report revealed a relationship between the purchase of severe-duty trucks and thriving economies.
“We created the Freightliner Hardest Working Cities program because it’s clear that vibrant local economies count on severe duty trucks and the men and women who operate them,” said Allan Haggai, marketing communications manager at Freightliner. “We think it’s important to acknowledge cities and workers using products like ours to positively impact their communities.”
Since it was started, six cities have been awarded the Hardest Working Cities title: Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Nashville, Salt Lake City and Toronto. In researching for the award, Freightliner reviewed 400 metropolitan census areas in the U.S. and Canada in 11 different categories. Categories ranged from impact on overall gross domestic product to growth in employment to the number of jobs in sectors like construction, manufacturing and logistics.

For the cities that win, Freightliner hosts a celebration where elected officials and business leaders accept the award. The company said it will also find city work sites and coordinate surprise gift and food deliveries to thank workers for their contributions.
