Eaton VORAD has delivered 200 Eaton Vehicle Information Management Systems (EVIMS) to TransAm Trucking Inc., a refrigerated truckload carrier based in Olathe, Kan.

EVIMS is an optional enhancement to the VORAD Collision Warning System that allows fleets to better monitor vehicle and driver performance.
According to Russ McElliott, vice president and general manager for TransAm, the carrier also has an option to purchase an additional 300 units by the end of the year.
"Earlier this year, we decided to begin installing the VORAD systems and the SmartCruise option to improve overall fleet safety and reduce accidents," said McElliott. "Early results have been very positive, both on the administrative side of our business and with the driving performances of our vehicle operators.
"As a result, we decided to invest in the EVIMS units, which we see as an additional tool to further improve the efficiency and safety of our fleet."
The Eaton Vehicle Information Management System records and stores a host of data, including hard braking events, time on brakes, following distances and fast approaches on slow-moving traffic. EVIMS, which utilizes Windows-based software, also provides a wealth of summary reports to enhance safety and training, as well as allowing fleets to evaluate individual driver and vehicle performances.
These include:
-- Performance summary reports
-- Engine/road speed summary reports
-- Trip segment reports
-- Exception reports
-- Brake/fuel use summary reports
-- Productivity summary reports
-- System status reports
Through April of this year, Eaton VORAD has delivered more than 35,000 collision warning systems to a variety of fleets in North America.
TransAm Trucking has more than 900 power units and 1,600 temperature-controlled trailers. The carrier hauls pharmaceuticals, food products, retail products and other commodities from the Rocky Mountains to the Eastern seaboard.
The Eaton VORAD EVT-300 Collision Warning System, a part of the Roadranger System of drivetrain components, includes both forward and side radar sensors to detect objects and vehicles. In-cab display units with a series of warning lights and audible tones are used to warn the driver of the presence of these objects and vehicles and give the driver added time to react.
The Roadranger Solution is a combination of drivetrain, chassis and safety components from Dana and Eaton Corp., all backed by the Roadrangers.
