Ferrellgas Partners, a U.S. propane distributor, is integrating the Roush propane-powered Ford F-250 pickup truck into its alternative fuel fleet, and will take the truck on a "Road Show" through the Midwest June 15-18.
Ferrellgas President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Wambold will pick up the truck at Roush Performance's plant in Livonia, Mich., where the propane-injected pickup is manufactured. The company will then take the truck on the road to provide education about the economic and environmental advantages of the alternative fuel.
"Our goal at Ferrellgas is to promote the use of propane as a certified green fuel, as an excellent way for vehicle and machine fleets to curb emissions and as a great way for fleet owners to lower vehicle expenses while receiving significant tax incentives," Wambold said.
Propane powers more than 10 million vehicles worldwide, making it the most widely used alternative fuel, according to Ferrellgas. The fuel can reduce operating costs by 5 to 30 percent in comparison to gasoline-powered fleets, and can create 20 percent less nitrogen oxides, up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide and few particulate emissions, according to the Propane Education & Research Council. Propane-powered vehicle users can also take advantage of tax incentives through 2010.
"Not only can the use of propane help protect our environment, but there is also ample re-supply infrastructure throughout the United States," Wambold said. "It is my hope that my journey from Michigan to Kansas will demonstrate just how easy it is to travel with a propane-powered vehicle."
