The Trucking Assn. Executives Council last week honored American Trucking Associations President and CEO William Canary and named a new national chairman.
TAEC represents the 50 ATA affiliated state trucking associations and its conferences.
Canary was honored as the 10th recipient of the Bob Halladay Award, created in 1990 and named after Bob Halladay, former ATA Senior Vice President for Federation Relations. It is presented for outstanding contributions in assisting and supporting the work and efforts of the state trucking associations.
"Bill Canary was the unanimous choice to receive the Halladay Award for his long standing dedication and commitment to the federation," said outgoing TAEC Chairman Mike Riley, President of the Motor Transport Association of Connecticut. "He has done a great deal to put the Federation family back together again."
Among Canary's efforts this year were the re-affiliation to ATA of the New Hampshire Motor Transport Association, the affiliation of the Truckload Carriers Association, and the creation of Federation Hall at ATA Headquarters in Alexandria to honor ATA's past chairmen as well as the executives of the state associations and conferences. Canary is just the second member of the ATA staff to be honored, following David F. Gordon, director of ATA Federation Communications, who received the award last year.
Rick Todd, president of the South Carolina Trucking Association, was named chairman. "It's a great honor to be selected to lead the TAEC. Mike Riley has done an outstanding job and we will look to continue, and even further, his efforts in the coming year," commented Todd.
Other TAEC officers elected include: Sheila Foertsch, Managing Director, Wyoming Trucking Association - Vice Chairman; Robert Farrell, President, National Automobile Transportation Association - Treasurer; and David F. Gordon, Director ATA Federation Communications - Recording Secretary. TAEC Regional Officers elected were William G. Joyce, Jr., President, New York State Motor Truck Association - Region I; Cathy Gautreaux, Executive Director, Louisiana Motor Truck Association - Region II; and Larry Davis, President, Ohio Trucking Association - Region III; Foertsch was also elected to head Region IV.
