Swedish truck OEM Einride debuted an electric long-haul trailer optimized for use with both autonomous and electric truck vehicle platforms.

The Einride Trailer, an electric road semi-trailer slated to enter into production in 2023, was designed for integration with Einride electric and autonomous vehicles. The trailer will also be compatible with conventional electric semi-trucks.

The Einride Trailer will be available for customers globally, as part of the freight mobility solutions Einride offers all customers, a spokesperson told HDT.

The Einride Trailer is powered by the OEM’s Saga digital operating platform, which the company describes as a suite of apps for end-to-end electric and autonomous freight.

The platform includes four apps:

  • Evolve, which generates plans to electrification and automation by identifying electrification sweet spots and defining potential environmental impact.

  • Explore, which visualizes data across cost insights, fill rates, carbon dioxide emissions, and more.

  • Book, which is designed to track shipments from creation to final delivery and can be integrated with shipper’s current order management system.

  • Orchestrate, which bridges communications between automated transport planning and human interaction to ensure the entire network of electric trucks and chargers are displayed in real time.

Enabled by Saga, Einride says its new trailer will provide artificial intelligence-based insights into the cargo being transported by providing real-time data across key touch points including loading route planning, fill rates, cargo monitoring and preventative maintenance.

The trailer will also feature new, onboard, 320 kwh battery systems that will help boost electric semi-truck range to 400 miles (650 km) on a single charge.

In October of 2021, Einride announced its first move into North America with an agreement inked with GE Appliances to purchase and operate six electric, and one autonomous trucks. The truck were to be used at GE Appliance in Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Since then, Einride has closed more deals with other major shippers, including Coca-Cola, Electrolux, organic/vegan food producer Oatly and German grocery store chain Lidl to provide them with green and autonomous transportation vehicles.

Einride, based in Stockholm, was founded in 2016 with the intent of using emerging transportation technology to combat climate change while providing sustainable freight transportation. The company is focused on commercial vehicles with advanced digitization, autonomous and electric powertrain technologies.
