DriverNet, a system of interactive, touch-screen kiosks at close to 400 truckstops around the country, is reaching out to nontruckers with free e-mail through a travel site, http://www.freetrip.com.
DriverNet, which is two years old, allows drivers to retrieve information on truck stop promotions, various trucking companies, and local and national business services. Drivers can also access e-mail on the system. It also offers the same information through its web site at http://www.drivernet.com.
The travel site www.freetrip.com offers motorists customized driving routes, travel savings and more. Trip routing will soon be available through DriverNet kiosks, as well.
DriverNet kiosks are operating by TIMM Communications of Kansas City, MO. Participating truckstop chains include Petro, Pilot, TravelCenters of America, AMBEST, Williams TravelCenters (formerly MapCo), PTP and Travel Ports.
"This free service impacts literally every leisure and business traveler who wants the convenience of e-mail and information services while driving the highway system," says Don Welde, chief executive officer of TIMM.
