DieselEngineTrader, based in Glasgow, Scotland, offers exactly what its name implies: diesel engines on the Internet.
The market is worldwide, with a fair share of engines in the U.S.
You can search for for diesel engines by make, number of cylinders, model number, power and speed, condition, and geographical location. Partial model numbers can be used.
There are five engine condition categories: new, reconditioned, running, units requiring repair, and engines for spare parts. Where available, the engine's power curve can be entered, enabling you to search for a particular power/speed combination.
A list of engines is displayed with more detailed specification and seller information just a click away. You can contact the seller directly from the website; you don't even need to be on your own computer.
Access to the website is free. There is no log-in or registration; you can search immediately. For now, there is no cost for sellers to post diesel engines for sale on the site. However, there may be a listing charge in the future.
According to site founder Norman Rogers, DieselEngineTrader is an independent company that started in 1999. The site went live in July 2000. "The idea has grown out of our existing business in which we are, amongst other things, a sales, service, repair organization for diesel engines," he said.
