DHL Expands Operations Aggressively
DHL is continuing its rapid expansion with the opening of a new regional sort center in Erie, Pa

The facility is the fifth of seven new centers, part of a $1.2-billion investment program launched by DHL in June. In the last three weeks, the company announced the opening of new sort centers in Denver, Colo.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Memphis, Tenn. and Baton Rouge, La.
DHL has also carried out a new marketing program that includes bright yellow trucks, colorful uniforms for its union drivers and a broad, national advertising campaign.
The company is taking clear aim at Fedex and UPS and offers express, air and ocean freight, overland transport and logistics solutions. DHL is wholly owned by Deutsche Post World Net, which evolved from Germany’s postal service.
By the end of 2004, DHL's expanded Ground Network will include 19 Regional Sort Centers and more than 7,950 truck runs per week. Beyond 2005, DHL plans to add five more regional sort facilities and to synchronize all 24 facilities with networks in Canada and Mexico to provide one fully integrated North American network.
