Two Delphi Corp. divisions recently received Masters of Quality Awards from Freightliner LLC.
This honor, awarded to Delphi Delco Electronics Systems and Delphi Packard Electric Systems, recognizes Freightliner LLC's top performing suppliers. It is given with the highest distinction for meeting strict standards and demonstrating an ongoing commitment to quality improvement.
Each department within Freightliner LLC rates its strategic suppliers through an evaluation system and these companies receive a report card with performance feedback in relation to Freightliner's business expectations.
To receive the 2003 Masters of Quality Award, suppliers must be rated with an overall score of 92% or greater to qualify.
"To be chosen by Freightliner LLC to receive the Masters of Quality Award is a significant honor," said Greg Kochendorfer, global director of Delphi's Commercial Vehicle Systems group. "We can talk about our quality, but this award demonstrates that Delphi is committed to delivering a quality product."
Delphi Delco Electronics supplies a selection of heavy-duty audio systems to Freightliner. The systems included in the evaluation feature AM/FM radio and an AM/FM radio with cassette or CD playback along with an alarm clock available on the up-level models. In addition, the audio systems offer compatibility with a six-disc CD-changer, two-channel amplifier and infra-red remote controller. The receivers include NOAA 7- channel weatherband and LED backlighting for longer display life.
Delphi Packard Electric overlays and sequences various wiring assemblies for more than 200 trucks a day at several Freightliner plants in North America.
Vehicles can include as many as 40 wiring assemblies, building each to specific customer requests. The sequencing operation manages approximately 1,500 part numbers daily.
Freightliner's evaluation rates suppliers in as many as eight areas. Those include customer support, engineering, warranty, service and purchasing, among others.
The Masters of Quality Award was presented to representatives from Delphi at an awards ceremony in Portland, Ore.
