DaimlerChrysler has expressed an interested in teaming up with a Chinese truck maker to benefit from a fast-growing market for commercial vehicles, according to published reports.

Dieter Zetsche, head of DaimlerChrysler's commercial vehicles division, said in an interview, "If you are going to be in China, you have to do so with a big player."
He added that China “has a clear growth potential and is investing heavily in its infrastructure.”
Zetsche also said that DaimlerChrysler was looking for a partner in China in a move aimed at filling holes in its global presence in the truck market following recent acquisitions in the U.S. and Asia.
Chinese demand for trucks is expected to reach about 1.5 million units by 2010, equalling the projected demand in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia put together.
