The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has named a new executive director to replace William "Russ" Fiste, who retired in December.
Stephen F. Campbell, former Louisiana state police officer and, most recently, vice president of safety, training and technology for the Motor Freight Carriers Assn., will join the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance as executive director April 19.
CVSA is an organization of federal, state and provincial agencies and industry representatives in the U.S., Canada and Mexico dedicated to improving commercial vehicle safety.
Campbell began his career as a road trooper with the Louisiana state police in 1972 and retired 15 years later as a lieutenant. He also served as a public information officer and governor's security specialist and spent his last three years with the Louisiana state police as the executive officer in charge of the hazardous materials/motor carrier enforcement section. Before joining the Motor Freight Carriers Assn. last year, Campbell was vice president and director of safety for the American Trucking Assns.
Fiste retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1986 and has been at the helm of CVSA for more than 10 years.
