Cummins Inc. has announced that its 2007 clean and fuel-efficient on-highway engines are available in Class 8 tractors, which meet requirements for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay-designated

highway tractors.
Cummins ComfortGuard auxiliary power unit also assists carriers in meeting SmartWay membership requirements and can be specified in a SmartWay Class 8 tractor.
Cummins 2007 on-highway engines, which power Class 8 tractors, include the ISX, ISM and ISL. The engines are certified and compliant to the 2007 EPA requirements. In addition to meeting the more stringent requirements, these engines also deliver the reliability, best-in-class fuel efficiency and performance that customers need. Cummins engines can be purchased in SmartWay-eligible Class 8 tractors from International, Volvo, Kenworth and Peterbilt.
Cummins provides a variety of tools to assist customers in achieving the best fuel economy. Cummins PowerSpec tool provides gearing recommendations and guides customers in setting electronic features and parameters to best meet their fuel economy and performance needs.
PowerSpec is an online tool located at www.powerspec.cummins.com. Cummins patented features such as Load-Based Speed Control and Gear-Down Protection coach drivers into the most efficient driving techniques. SmartTorque ratings are available to provide extra torque in the top two gears. The ComfortGuard APU system from Cummins features ComfortGuard cab air HVAC components for high-performance heating and cooling. The easy-to-use in-cab thermostat can be controlled manually or programmed to start automatically based on thermostat settings or time of day. The complete and compact system offers an effective solution for heating and cooling the cab with the main engine off.
