Con-way Upgrades With ObjectFX Technology
ObjectFX Corp., said Con-way Inc. has deployed its SpatialFX geospatial development and deployment software platform for enhancements to a major scheduling and dispatching system.

The Con-way Service Center Operations (SCO) program is an application now being used at Con-way Freight, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. providing regional and inter-regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services in North America.
ObjectFX technology is used in two parts of the SCO application: an interactive map-based display that provides a geospatial view of Con-way service centers, pick-up and delivery locations, and planned delivery routes; and an interactive planning and dispatch module that allows users to find routes based on driving time and distance, maintain routes, determine optimum sequencing of pick-ups and deliveries, and create delivery plans. The system makes extensive use of SpatialFX for map visualization, access to business data, routing and geocoding.
The SCO system is based on a service-oriented and event-driven architecture, with ObjectFX products integrated as software services. A key benefit of Con-way's implementation approach is that components built for SCO are accessible to multiple subsidiaries within Con-way.
"With SpatialFX we were able to integrate services such as visualization, routing, geocoding and a variety of other location-based management functions right into our core application. The flexible deployment options will allow us to support a variety of distributed clients and systems in a scalable architecture. The resulting applications are highly responsive and give our staff increased visibility into our operations, as well as the ability to plan and manage operations effectively," said Jackie Barretta, CIO, Con-way Inc.
