FieldWorks has enhanced its FW5000 Series of notebook computers to include a standard hardware interface to all diesel truck engines from such manufacturers as Navistar, Caterpillar, Cummins Engine Co. and Detroit Diesel. Servicing dealers can now use the unit to perform diagnostics, engine service and performance upgrading across manufacturer platforms.
Once interfaced at the hardware level, a dealer then selects a specific software module that applies to the engine model being serviced. The FW500 can then reprogram vehicle electronic control units throughout the engine and transmission. Software modules include extensive diagnostic routines and fault codes along with support links to manufacturer databases.
Users can custom configure the FW5000 Series to house a combination of modules, while the CPU and critical electronics reside on a Technology Module which can be removed for future upgrade and repair.
