Cancom Tracking and Vistar Datacom have equipped the entire fleet of Commercial Transport Northern with VistarÕs GlobalWave asset management solution.

Using GlobalWave MT2000 wireless data terminals mounted on their tankers and communicating via geostationary satellite, the GlobalWave technology, which includes GPS, will enable commercial vehicles to be tracked and monitored. Its two-way communication capability will facilitate up-to-the-minute information exchanges between the vehicles and the distribution center concerning location, route optimization and status of cargo. The GlobalWave system permits two-way, satellite-based data communications in real time to track and manage various fixed and mobile assets, such as trucks, trailers, oil and gas pipeline and wellhead facilities, chemical storage tanks and intermodal containers.
The GlobalWave technology also supports security concerns, giving shippers and carriers of hazardous materials and other dangerous goods the ability to increase security and reduce risk by tracking shipments covertly and without driver involvement.
"We have been researching trailer tracking technology for many years," said Derek Williams, general manager of Commercial Transport Northern Ltd. "A lot of our business is dependant on [timely] deliveries and we needed a reliable system to maintain control of our fleet and provide superior customer service. Our tankers travel a large geographic area. We knew that we needed a reliable, cost-effective satellite system to give us dependable coverage that only satellite can offer. We also needed accurate information on the positioning of our fleet, and the Global Wave system will provide us with just that. This tool is used in conjunction with our customer service representations to ensure that our commitments are met. With this technology our customers are able to view the position of their dedicated units from the start to finish."
