Comdata Corp., Brentwood, Tenn., announced a joint marketing and product development agreement with San Diego-based Qualcomm making Comdata's network the premier provider of Qualcomm's CabCard.
The two companies also announced a new, long-term contract to provide CabCard to the fleet of CRST Van Expedited, Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Introduced to the transportation industry in 1996, CabCard Personal Communications is a pre-paid service providing driver e-mail, long distance telecommunications, and voice-mail capabilities. CabCard allows Internet e-mail to be sent and received directly from the cab of a truck using Qualcomm's OmniTracs, TruckMail or OmniExpress mobile communications systems.
Working with Comdata will enable us to provide a suite of new, unique features and capabilities on the CabCard platform," said George Dunn, vice president and general manager of North American operations, Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. "Qualcomm is confident that Comdata will provide the capabilities that are needed for the CabCard platform to operate successfully in our customer fleets."
Funds for e-mail messaging and long-distance telecommunications services are deducted from either Comdata cards or pre-paid, rechargeable cards distributed through fleets and now managed through the Comdata financial network, or from the driver's Express Cash account.
CabCard was previously provided by Transcommunications, Inc., of Chattanooga, Tenn.
