Nov. 23 – Cobra Electronics’ patented, FCC-approved Safety Alert Traffic Warning System is now being used by municipalities in 50 states.

The system uses radar-detector technology to give early warning of oncoming high-speed emergency vehicles, road construction and other hazards. A “Safety-Only” detector, which uses Safety Alert technology but does not function as a radar detector, is available from Cobra. It has separate audible and visual alerts for fast-moving emergency vehicles, road hazards, school buses, and oncoming trains at railroad crossings.
“We’re seeing a 25% faster response time using Safety Alert transmitters,” says Rick Shieve with a Louisiana ambulance company, “because drivers with radar detectors are moving out of our way. We have a lot of curvy roads, and drivers often can’t see our lights or hear our sirens.”
