Class 8 Truck Sales Up 19.2% in April
April heavy-duty truck sales rose 19.2 percent to 24,297 units compared with a year earlier, according to Automotive News
April heavy-duty truck sales rose 19.2 percent to 24,297 units compared with a year earlier, according to Automotive News.
Sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, for April Classes 4 through 8, totaled 48,556 units in the month, up 12.9 percent from April 2005.
Total truck sales, including Classes 1 through 3, were down 6.6 percent from a year earlier to 755,351 units.
Sales of Class 1 through 3 trucks totaled 706,795 units for the month, down 7.1 percent from April 2005.
Freightliner continued as the Class 8 sales leader in April with 6,442 units, an increase of 13.9 percent over April 2005.
Following Freightliner was
• International with 5,083 units, up 10.1 percent
• Peterbilt moved into third position with 2,922 units, up 23.1 percent
• Right behind Peterbilt was Volvo with 2,692 units, up 62.1 percent
• Mack moved ahead of Kenworth with 2,614 units, up 9.5 percent
• Kenworth with 2,591 units, up 20.4 percent
Year to Date Class 8
• Class 8 sales totaled 89,820 up 17.6 percent
• Freightliner is still the No. 1 seller in Class 8 with YTD sales of 25,591 units, up 10.4 percent for the period
Following Freightliner were...
• International with 17,164 units, up 13.0 percent
• Volvo with 10,062 units, up 26.7 percent
• Peterbilt with 10,715units, up 20.4 percent
• Kenworth with 9,697 units, up 27.4 percent
• Mack with 9,659 units, up 20.9 percent.
Year to Date Class 4 Through 8
Sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, Classes 4 through 8, totaled 186,043 up 17.3 percent for the period.
Sales of Class 1 through 3 trucks totaled 2,736,857 units for the month, down 3.0 percent for the first quarter.
Total truck sales, including Classes 1 through 3, were down 1.9 percent from a year earlier to 2,922,900 units.
