The California Highway Patrol put 73 new 2002 Chevrolet Camaros into service last week for use in commercial truck enforcement.

Most of the new cars are all white, with just the CHP emblem on the doors. This, along with a new, low-profile rooftop light bar, makes the cars harder to spot.
The cars will be used to target truck drivers who speed, change lanes illegally or drive in other unsafe manner. They also will be used to target motorists who drive dangerously around trucks, such as cutting them off.
“One problem we have with conventional black and white patrol cars is that people can spot them at a distance and momentarily change their driving habits while we are observing them,” said a statement from the CHP. The low-slung Camaros, with a top speed near 160 mph, will blend better into the rest of the traffic to catch unsuspecting violators.
