Contract Freighters Inc., an international truckload carrier based in Joplin, Mo., has announced its Drivers of the Year for 2007. The six award winners, representing solo as well as team driver operations, were singled out at a recent
ceremony for exemplary performance, commitment to safety and professional service representing CFI in the market, with their fellow employees and with customers. Each driver qualified for consideration by earning driver of the month recognition during 2007.
"This ceremony is our annual opportunity to recognize the 'best of the best' in our fleet," said Herb Schmidt, president, CFI, a Con-way company. "What these individuals have accomplished is about more than safe miles. It is about service, leading by example and representing our company as a complete professional. It is the highest honor we give to an employee or contractor."
Winners received gifts including a commemorative plaque, wrist watch, custom jacket and a cash prize. The 2007 honorees were:

• Company Driver: George Cook was named company driver of the year. Cook joined CFI in 1986 and has driven more than 2.7 million miles. He lives in Arlington, Texas. He has won this award for two consecutive years.
• Company Team: Michael Beam and Billy Weaver were awarded the company team of the year. They both reside in Lawndale, N.C. Beam joined the CFI team in 2006 and Weaver joined in 2005.
• Contractor Driver: Jon Smith was named the contractor driver of the year. Smith began driving with CFI in 1984 and lives in Joplin. He has driven more than 3 million miles.
• Contractor Team: Allan and Marian Bruton were awarded the contractor team of the year. Both began driving with CFI in 1988 and together have driven more than 3.8 million miles. They reside in Tulsa, Okla.

Contract Freighters, an operating company of Con-way Inc., provides expedited, time-definite full-truckload transportation services across North America. Acquired by Con-way in 2007, CFI was combined with Con-way Truckload to create an organization that employs over 3,000 drivers with a fleet of more than 2,700 tractors and 8,600 trailers operating throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. The company provides full-truckload transportation serving the transcontinental shipping needs of commercial and industrial businesses as well as sister company Con-way Freight.
