25 years ago, CAT Scale installed its first scale in South Holland, Ill., for the first time giving drivers access to scales that could weigh their entire truck and trailer unit all at once.

Founded by truckstop entrepreneur Bill Moon, CAT Scale Company introduced the first totally automated, full length platform scale. Drivers could get a weight on their vehicle that was guaranteed accurate with CAT Scale unconditional guarantee.
Since then, CAT Scale has grown to the largest truck scale network in the world. Moon installed the first CAT Scale in 1977 in South Holland, Ill. In 1988, there were 28 CAT Scales in existence. Now there are over 825 CAT brand scales across the United States and Canada.
If a driver receives an overweight fine after weighing legal on a CAT brand scale, CAT Scale Company will either pay the fine or appear in court with the driver as an expert witness in order to get the fine dismissed. In either scenario, the driver is covered by the guarantee and does not have to pay the fine, as long as they weighed on a CAT brand scale prior to receiving the citation.
CAT Scale Company currently employees nine technicians that install equipment at new locations, train truckstop employees and assist CAT Scale locations that call in to their 24-Hour Help Desk. CAT Scale has also partnered with more than 100 service companies that can be on-site within an hour if a truckstop has a scale problem. In addition, CAT Scale employs eight maintenance crews that visit each CAT Scale every year to clean and repaint. CAT Scales are inspected and calibrated every quarter to ensure accuracy.
CAT Scale plans to celebrate their Silver Anniversary by conducting a special Weigh To Win® CAT Cash T Sweepstakes for drivers beginning in June. Drivers will have a chance to save CAT Scale weigh tickets for prizes.
