“Maximizing Fuel Efficiency gives drivers a better understanding of the importance of reducing fuel consumption,” said Mark Murrell, vice president of sales and marketing at CarriersEdge. “Fluctuating fuel costs as well as environmental impact are challenges for trucking companies, but drivers remain the biggest variable when it comes to fuel consumption.”
The course covers factors that can influence fuel use, including wind, air and road resistance, tires and wheels, route management, speed optimization and progressive shifting. It also includes an industry perspective on saving fuel and greenhouse gas emissions as well as a discussion of the importance of adhering to motor carrier fuel purchasing programs and practices.
“Many trucking operations are successfully using fuel efficiency competition and bonus programs, but drivers also need to understand the behaviors and operating practices they can use to decrease fuel use,” said Murrell.
