Dry-van carrier West Side Transport has opened a terminal in Columbus, Ohio, that will serve as a base for its fleet of “home daily” drivers.

The location was opened to service increased business in the region, but also to afford greater home time to drivers to help improve retention.

"West Side recognizes the continued struggle to find quality drivers," said Ron Joseph, West Side's COO.  "Drivers are telling us that they want to be home more and we want to accommodate those needs by providing home daily opportunities in this market.”

West Side is also offering “home weekly” and “home twice weekly” driving opportunities for drivers seeking to spend more time on the road. The positions are open to experienced drivers as well as recent graduates of truck-driving schools.

"The Columbus terminal not only gives us an opportunity to provide a home daily position but allows West Side the ability to connect with our drivers domiciled in Columbus and surrounding areas,” said Joseph. “Our main concerns are providing a quality paycheck, getting the driver home, and treating every driver with the respect they deserve by having a terminal located near our driver base.”

West Side Transport is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It operates a fleet of 550 late-model power units and 2,100 dry-van trailers in the U.S.
