Old-time truckers from C&H are holding their 10th annual reunion Saturday in Mesquite, TX.

C&H Transportation was a close-knit company based in Dallas, TX. Drivers would get together while on the road for barbecues. They used to joke affectionately that the initials stood for "cold and hungry."
But the company closed in 1989 after a buyout. A handful of former employees decided to host a reunion, and have had one every year since but one. In previous years, they have had as many as 300 drivers show up for this event.
This year's reunion will be held at the Lakeside Activity Club at 403 S. Galloway in Mesquite. The all-day event will include an all-you-can-eat catfish dinner at 1 p.m., door prizes, an auction of old C&H memorabilia, a bake contest, plaques for the attendees who have come the farthest and reached the most advanced age, and more.
Each year, the organizers sent out about 500 invitations. People have come from as far away as California, Oregon and New York. But Jerry Smith, one of the organizers, says that attendance has been dwindling in recent years. She attributes it partly to the deaths of former C&H employees. One man, A.E. Edwards, won the "oldest" trophy for years until he died last year at age 94 a month before the reunion. She also says that C&H alums move away and don't send their forwarding address.
