Trucking and business owners in Chicago aren't happy about stepped-up enforcement of laws banning commercial trucks from parking on streets.

Crain's Chicago Business reports that the ordinance was intended to keep long-haul truckers from parking their rigs on residential and arterial streets for days at a time. But now trucks waiting outside manufacturing plants for their loading or unloading appointments are getting the boot - a device locked onto the wheels to keep trucks from moving until they pay a ticket and a boot-removal fee.
"Besides hurting manufacturers' profits and relationships with customers who depend on just-in-time delivery, a prolonged crackdown increases the risk that the manufacturing business will relocate," observes reporter James Arndorfer.
Local business groups sent a letter to the City Council Transportation Committee to request a break for manufacturers in designated industrial corridors.
