Bering Postpones Assembly Startup
Weather-related construction delays have postponed the startup of Bering Truck Corp's truck assembly plant in Front Royal, VA
Weather-related construction delays have postponed the startup of Bering Truck Corp's truck assembly plant in Front Royal, VA.
According to Stark's News Service Interactive severe winter storms in the southeast have disrupted the construction schedule, forcing the company to move pilot production of Class 7 and 8 trucks from March to late Spring. A grand opening is set for July. This is the second postponement. The original start-up date was December 1999 but weather problems last year also caused delays.
Bering currently imports Class 3,4 and 6 trucks built by Hyundai Motor in South Korea. The new plant will have a 20,000-unit annual capacity but initially plans call for 8 trucks a day.
