Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake has voiced its support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's final rule mandating a 30 percent reduction in stopping distance for trucks.
The company says its lineup of foundation brakes meet the new government standard.

"Bendix is committed to improving vehicle safety, and we believe the new ruling is critical to helping prevent accidents and saving lives," said Walter Frankiewicz, president of Bendix Spicer. "The final rule is an important step toward balancing stopping performance between the many vehicle types that share our roadways, and we look forward to working with our OEM customers in this vital effort."

Bendix CVS and Bendix Spicer have advocated for shorting stopping distances since mid-2006, when regulation was in proposal then. The new rule requires implementation on three-axle tractors by August 1, 2011, while tractors with two axles and severe-service tractors must be in compliance by August 1, 2013.

Bendix offers all possible brake configurations to meet the new standards, including drum brakes, disc brakes or a combination of both.

"Vehicle OEMs and fleets can make purchase decisions based upon their needs and preferences," said Aaron Schwass, director for the foundation drum group at Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake. "We have been committed to developing advanced technology that meets the new requirements, while providing our customers a cost-effective solution to improve brake service life."
