Bekins Selects GE VeriWise for Trailer Tracking
GE TIP, Devon, Pa., announced that Bekins Van Lines, based in Hillside, Ill., has selected GE VeriWise trailer tracking for its fleet

The company will outfit 500 trailers units this year. One hundred have already been installed.
Jim Mazzuca, senior vice president of operations, said the company’s primary goal was to create “visibility for customer service, and give us the ability to update the positioning of equipment around the country. This helps our operations group plan capacity as new orders come in.”
Bekins plans to integrate GE VeriWise data, via an XML (eXtensible Markup Language) data feed, into the demand planning system it uses to route and anticipate capacity demands. Ultimately, the company will provide customers with trailer location information through the shipment tracking service on its web site.
According to Mazzuca, Bekins chose GE VeriWise for a few reasons: “They were a better technology fit for Bekins Van Lines, they had a willingness to partner on system enhancements, they had the financial strength to be there for the long term, they provided outstanding technical support, and their depth of product functionality fit our business needs,” he said.
