Averitt Express, of Cookeville, Tenn., will spec Eaton VORAD EVT-300 collision warning systems as an OEM-installed option on all its truckload power units, beginning with this year's order of 270 Volvo VN770 tractors.
Over the next three years, all of Averitt's 1,000-unit truckload fleet will be VORAD-equipped.
Averitt also offers LTL, expedited and air freight services.
The EVT-300 system was originally introduced into six Averitt tractors during a 60-day test period. The results revealed a dramatic increase in following distance, indicating much safer driver behavior and more time to react to traffic situations ahead. The drivers adapted well to the Eaton VORAD system after training and familiarization - commenting that they especially appreciated the blind spot detection feature.
Averitt is also installing Eaton VORAD EVT-300 systems at its sister fleets.
