Transportation Costing Group (TCG), specialists in Profitability Management Tools and activity-based cost analysis for the transportation industry, said Tennessee-based Averitt Express has adopted the company’s
LTL Cost Information System. In addition, Averitt is also adopting TCG’s TL Cost Information System for the company’s truckload service unit.
According to Mark Davis, vice president of Pricing & Traffic for Averitt, the carrier selected TCG’s products because Averitt’s existing system lacked the detailed cost analysis capabilities the company required.
“We were interested in the development of motor carrier costing capabilities and found that many industry leading carriers were using the TCG system,” he said. “After a number of presentations – and after participating in TCG’s user’s group meeting where we heard about the benefits of CIS from other users – it was obvious that TCG’s system would be our choice for a costing software upgrade.”
A number of features of TCG’s CIS solutions were particularly attractive to Averitt, including the system’s ability to calibrate results to the carrier’s general ledger to provide specific and highly accurate costs and to give credibility to the results. The system also provides the capability to allocate overhead costs in a much more specific and accurate manner. In addition, the carrier cites TCG’s extensive reporting capabilities, including profitability analysis segmented by customer, service center, lane, sales representative, shipment size, and numerous other factors.
