Autocar, working together with engine supply partner Cummins, said it has met the tough new emissions requirements that went into effect this week. The essential problem was to handle the 30 percent
greater load on a truck’s cooling system without making modifications that diminished engine performance or interfered with body equipment. The Autocar single-radiator solution meets these challenges, with a full range of new ’07 engines that actually offer increased horsepower. Additionally, the new engines provide for clean installation, with no increase in wheelbase, and all options, such as power take-off, remain available.
Bill Dolish, Autocar’s vice president of engineering, said, “The benefits of our partnership with Cummins show through clearly. We were able to expand the available engine ranges, while retaining all the options and dependability that our customers demand.”
Autocar offers the full line of ’07-certified Cummins products, including: 8-liter through 11-liter diesel; 9-liter natural gas, when available; and horsepower ratings from 285 through 425.
The engines include an integrated exhaust solution designed by Fleetguard/Cummins that produces minimal added complexity and demands much less maintenance than was initially expected, requiring no cleaning or manual regeneration.
Additionally, Autocar continues to offer factory-installed alternate fuel (natural gas) engines. Autocar will supply existing C and L Gas+ engines until the new generation ISL G is available.
