The American Trucking Associations is seeking nominations for professional truck drivers to serve on the 2011-2012 America's Road Team.
Those chosen as Road Team Captains, as ATA calls them, will travel the country speaking on behalf of the trucking industry to the community, news media and public officials. They will address transportation and safety issues, speaking at community events and anywhere they can reach the motoring public to share safe driving tips and offer advice on how to safely share the road with tractor-trailers.
The Road Team members also advocate safety to those within the industry at terminals and truckstops. They speak with fellow drivers, driver training students and corporate safety officers. They also have the opportunity to present trucking and safety issues before our public officials, at the national, state and local levels.
"For over two decades, the America's Road Team has represented the dedication of America's 3.4 million professional truck drivers," said Bill Graves, ATA president and CEO. "By nominating drivers for the Road Team selection process, trucking companies are helping to spread the industry's message of safety, essentiality and professionalism."
"The trucking industry remains absolutely essential to the United States and its citizens, yet this is not always recognized by the public and government officials," said Scott Kress, senior vice president -- sales & marketing, Volvo Trucks North America. "The captains of America's Road Team, with millions of miles of accident-free driving, are one of the most effective means the industry has to communicate that important information in a down-to-earth way," said Scott Kress, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Volvo Trucks North America, exclusive sponsor of the Road Team.
To nominate a professional truck driver, carefully read the eligibility requirements and fill out the nomination form at www.americasroadteam.com.
