EBE Technologies, East Moline, Ill., developer of enterprise business process management software for the transportation industry, hosted its first annual User Conference and Vendor Exhibition themed "Driving Action, Delivering Results", in Oak Brook, Ill., last month.
The conference consisted of more than 20 educational sessions focused on industry topics and technology solutions to meet the challenges of today's trucking environment.
Keynote speaker Bob Costello, chief economist for the American Trucking Association, spoke on diesel fuel prices and practical strategies for motor carriers. His message focused on the many reasons the price of crude oil has surged, the annual diesel expense, consumption within the trucking industry and strategies to conserve fuel while boosting MPG, reducing idling, and driver variability.
"Because there is no one reason for the cause of rising fuel prices, there is no one magic bullet to correct the problem," said Costello. "While we are currently experiencing a decrease in fuel costs, we will most likely never go back to the prices of even a year ago. It's not the increase in cost that has affected the industry so dramatically, but it is the rate at which prices increased -- not giving carriers the ability to respond," he added.
The conference included breakout and general sessions presented by EBE staff, industry leaders such as TMW Systems, Qualcomm, and PeopleNet and EBE customers. Packard Logistics, DistTech and Modern Transportation presented case studies detailing their business growth through EBE's process management software.
