Consolidating activities from three smaller facilities into one, ArvinMeritor this week officially opened a drivetrain component remanufacturing facility for Mascot Truck Parts.


ArvinMeritor acquired Mascot in December 2007, expanding its capacity, capabilities, and customer base in North America. Located less than 5 miles from Toronto's Lester B. Pearson airport, and with easy access to major highways, Mascot's new 100,000-sq-ft Mississauga facility promises customers all-makes portfolio, single point of contact, and same- or next-day delivery to more than 25 satellite distributors continent wide.

"Mascot is one of our key product brands for our aftermarket business, and it has built a significant reputation for quality, customer service, and extensive product knowledge," said Terry Livingston, general manager-North America, for ArvinMeritor's Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket.

Mascot has been producing remanufactured transmissions, drive-axle carriers, drivelines, and steering gears for more than 40 years. They are sold wholesale under private label brands through dealers and distributors only. Work was previously done at three smaller facilities located in the west end of Toronto. Centralizing in one location has enabled more efficient production including reduced parts inventory, labor costs and manufacturing overhead. The business unit has increased its production capacity for axle carriers and transmissions by roughly 20 percent due to the consolidation.

"The consolidation allows for quicker decision-making and reduced cycle-times as well as consistent processes for all products," said Glenn Hanthorn, president of Mascot, which also operates remanufacturing centers in Edmonton, Alberta; Moncton, New Brunswick; and Boucherville, Quebec.

Typical inventory includes 850 transmission cores, 650 differential cores, and 5,000 steering cores. Average of 70 transmission cases and 130 differentials cases repaired per month, and over 1200 axle carriers and transmissions are shipped monthly to customers / partners throughout North America including five truck OEMs.

Transmission and drivetrain products disassembled, cleaned, inspected, remanufactured, and tested to OE specifications, and include brands such as Fuller, Dana, TTC, and Meritor.

ArvinMeritor's new all-makes steering gears and pumps remanufacturing program includes more than 600 parts numbers from brands such as Vickers, Hoburn, Luk, Sheppard, Eaton, Saginaw, TRW, and ZF. The steering gears and pumps are available for a wide range of commercial vehicles and applications, and include serial-number traceability and color-coded instructions to properly identify the installation method.

Additionally, ArvinMeritor has added Allison automatic transmissions to its growing aftermarket portfolio for commercial vehicles. The new remanufactured transmissions will be sold under ArvinMeritor's Mascot product brand and include Allison AT, MT, HT, 1000, 2000, 2400, 3000, and 4000 series automatics. The Mascot transmissions (both automatic and manual models) are remanufactured to the original equipment manufacturer's exact engineering specifications. The units are an exact fit, with no modifications necessary for installation.

ArvinMeritor launched its first remanufactured product (axle carriers) in 1983 and has repeatedly emphasized the program's importance to serving customers' aftermarket appetite for dependable, quality remanufactured components. Other remanufactured components from ArvinMeritor include all-makes trailer axles, brake shoes, manual transmissions, axle carriers, hydraulic brakes, air systems, and air brakes.
