The Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) announced that ArvinMeritor, supplier of of integrated systems, modules and components to the motor vehicle industry, has joined the TRIB.

ArvinMeritor Commercial Vehicle Systems, Troy, Mich., serves the commercial truck and trailer and specialty original equipment manufacturers and related aftermarkets. Its products are part of virtually every vehicle on the road today
The Tire Retread Information Bureau is a non-profit, member-supported industry association dedicated to the recycling of tires through retreading and repairing, and to promoting proper maintenance for all tires.
“The organization does great work and is a strong advocate of tire maintenance, a crucial element to increasing tire life, fuel efficiency and safety, and to keeping vehicles on the road generating revenue,” he went on. “Those are among the reasons that our Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI has been so well accepted by motor carriers.” said D. Mike Pennington, senior director-global marketing communications, ArvinMeritor.
An automatic tire inflation system for trailers, it uses compressed air from the trailer air system to inflate any tire that falls below a pre-set pressure, explained Pennington. A self-contained system, it connects all tires on the trailer to a controlled air supply to fill and maintain air pressure at a constant and proper level, even while the vehicle is moving.
As air pressure decreases from the tire manufacturer's recommended level, the Meritor Tire Inflation System automatically routes air supply to a control box and then into the axle. The air is then distributed to each tire, helping to extend tire life and allowing for more even wear and maximized retread potential.
“The single most critical factor for getting the most out of tires is maintaining the proper inflation pressure for a given tire size and load,” said Harvey Brodsky, Managing Director TRIB. “Tires not only last longer, but are safer, and they are more retreadable.”
Many truckers do not realize that it is not the tire, but the air the inside the tire that carries the weight of a vehicle, absorbs shock and keeps the tire in its proper shape so it may perform as designed, he noted. Along with affecting rolling resistance and thus fuel economy, inflation pressures also influence handling, traction, braking and load carrying capability.
With the addition ArvinMeritor, TRIB now has more than 440 members in 32 countries.
