Whether you call it Winter Storm Rocky (as The Weather Channel does), a “historic, crippling blizzard” (as described by the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Texas) or just the latest in a line of irritating and even crippling winter weather, big delays are expected in several Midwest and Great Plains states, just days after another storm pounded the region.

Whiteouts to near-whiteout conditions are being reported in several states, along with strong winds, that include shutting down some key trucking routes.

National Weather Service officials in Kansas and Oklahoma issued blizzard warnings and watches through late Monday, and winter storm warnings were in effect from eastern New Mexico to eastern Michigan. Snowfall records could be broken in the Texas panhandle. 

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow was possible Monday from the Mid-Mississippi Valley to the southern Plains, with blizzard conditions possible for some locations. Parts of central Oklahoma, Kansas and western Missouri could see more than a foot of snow through Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Gulf Coast.
