Oil Purification Systems, developer and manufacturer of the OPS-1 on-board oil refiner system, has announced that Alvan Motor Freight, a Midwestern regional motor freight carrier, has signed
an agreement to purchase 100 units of the OPS-1 on-board oil refiner system to outfit its entire fleet of high-mileage, line-haul vehicles.
As the installation is completed, Alvan expects to save $40,000 per year on oil maintenance costs, streamline its preventive maintenance routines and minimize negative effects to the environment.
“The OPS-1 system delivers a very clear, easy-to-measure return on investment,” said James Van Zoeren, president and chief operating officer of Alvan Motor Freight. “Overall, we estimate that we will save $360,000 over a five-year period just on the line-haul fleet. The environmental impact of the OPS-1 system was another important factor in our decision-making process. The OPS-1 practically eliminates the need for waste oil disposal – an important benefit to our company. This is the kind of environmental impact that we want to make.”
Alvan is a member of The SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the EPA and the freight industry to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. Members of SmartWay strive to work towards a cleaner, more efficient transportation future by adopting fuel-saving strategies that increase profits and reduce emissions.
With immediate plans to outfit its line-haul fleet of equipment with the OPS-1 system, Alvan has a long-term plan to outfit the majority of its entire fleet according to Jim Partridge, director of equipment and maintenance.
“We have a total fleet of 360 power units in our line-haul and local pickup and delivery fleet. Traditionally, after running the line-haul units in our high-mileage, over-the-road application for five to seven years, we move them into our local pickup and delivery application, where their annual mileage is greatly reduced. Through this process, eventually the majority of our trucks will be outfitted with OPS-1 systems,” said Partridge. “The benefit of running clean oil over the life of the equipment is critical for Alvan since we run our trucks 10 to 12 years.”
The OPS-1 is an on-board oil refiner system that can be easily mounted on a broad range of vehicle and industrial engines. The OPS-1 reduces or eliminates the solid and liquid contaminants from engine oil, thereby greatly extending the time between oil changes – or eliminating them entirely. Instead of changing the oil at incremental mileage intervals, analysis of the oil determines when an oil change is required. Weighing only 11 pounds, the OPS-1 is a compact, two-piece system that can be split up for easy installation on the engine.
