ALK Technologies Inc., Princeton, N.J., has announced the release of CoPilot/Pocket PC, a GPS navigation and route guidance system for truck drivers.

This solution adds convenience and portability to the over-the-road experience, helps drivers increase their on-time performance from dock-to-dock and enhances fleet productivity. CoPilot Truck combines the industry-standard truck routing, mileage and mapping capabilities of ALK PC*Miler Solutions with the in-vehicle GPS navigation and route guidance technology of its CoPilot product line.
This combination creates the first on-board navigation system specifically designed for owner-operators, leased-operators and company drivers. CoPilot Truck/Pocket PC is also the first truck-specific system designed to operate on the conveniently portable Pocket PC platform.
Drivers can route throughout North America using a number of routing options including: Practical, Shortest, Toll Avoidance, National Network, 53-foot Trailer or Light Vehicle Routing. Users enter a street address, intersection or truck stop as a destination and receive turn-by-turn, spoken directions based on the routing type selected.
CoPilot Truck core features include instant and automatic route recalculation, which provides a new route within seconds of missing a turn or going out-of-route for any reason. The Detour feature allows drivers to route around traffic or construction immediately, and lane change warnings alert the driver if an upcoming exit requires being in the left lane.
Craig Fiander, director of marketing for ALK Technologies, said "CoPilot Truck on a Pocket PC increases portability and decreases hardware costs in the vehicle, and new communications features enable real-time fleet management."
In addition to the core features, CoPilot Truck/Pocket PC includes Live Technology, the new communications-enabled capability that allows for two-way communications between the cab and back office, real-time vehicle tracking and on-the-fly remote dispatch. With Live, dispatchers are able to track vehicles in real-time, communicate with drivers safely and affordably, as well as alter their trip itinerary if a change becomes necessary.
Single units of CoPilot Truck can be purchased by calling (800) 377-6453, prompt 7. Multi-unit pricing is available through the ALK sales department at (800) 377-6453, prompt 1. For more information on CoPilot Truck for laptops and/or Pocket PCs, visit www.alk.com .
