ALK Technologies and the United States Department of Defense announced the release of the PC*MILER-based Defense Table of Official Distances (DTOD) 16.1.

DTOD is the worldwide standard distance calculation data and software used by the U.S. Departmet of Defense.
This is the fourth year of a five-year licensing agreement between ALK and the DoD. Significant enhancements have been made to both the map database and the user interface, making DTOD 16.1 more realistic in terms of graphics and routing. The updated graphics feature more map detail and an improved color scheme. In addition, distances and driving directions more closely approximate actual driving routes.
In conjunction with the DTOD 16.1 release, ALK announced the release of PC*MILER 16.1 and PC*MILER/Worldwide 16.1. These two products are the commercial versions of DTOD and can be used by carriers and logistics companies to generate DTOD distances. All North American motor carriers and logistics companies handling freight and personal property shipments for the DoD are bound by DTOD 16.1 mileage for payment and audit purposes. DTOD also extends to all European personal property and household goods movements. PC*MILER/Worldwide and DTOD are the only two worldwide distance calculation software products currently available.
DTOD is available on multiple hardware and software configurations ensuring compatibility with worldwide DoD systems. Specifically, DTOD operates on network servers running Windows NT/2000, which support multiple users and allow interfaces to all DoD application systems. Individual users are supported by desktop and portable PCs running Windows 98/NT/2000. DTOD also includes an SAIC-developed web site to support interactive distance queries for authorized DoD users. Concurrent with the release of DTOD 16.1, SAIC launched the redesigned DTOD web site. The new-look DTOD Web site is easier to use, and provides improved access to all DTOD features and information through a new layout, menus and menu options.
