Aljex Software, Middlesex, N.J., announced record sales for the first half of calendar year 2008, with a 75 percent increase in subscription sales over the same period in 2007.

Aljex provides management software for freight brokers, carriers, logistics companies and other transportation providers.

"Internet-based software is particularly appealing in economically challenging times like these, and it is gaining wider acceptance among smart transportation providers," said Tom Heine, president of Aljex Software. "That's because the cost is directly related to business activity. Customers make no upfront investment and add features as needed."

The second quarter was particularly strong, according to Heine, who said the company's upgrade and new business sales showed a 20 percent increase compared to the previous quarter.

""People are desperate to cut costs, and being more efficient is the easiest way to do so without jeopardizing sales."

Since Aljex is hosted on the Internet, general software upgrades are made weekly and are available to all users at no additional charge, he explained. Traditional software providers charge customers for updated software, usually marked by version number.

Heine noted that during the second quarter, the company also launched Aljex for Carriers, a software suite specifically for trucking companies, and TIN, a Google map-based, user-friendly, highly functional system for 3PLs and brokers. TIN stands for Transportation Intermediaries Network. TIN includes free broker-to-carrier EDI.
