AirIQ, the Ontario company known for its wireless communications and equipment tracking products, and electronics giant Delphi said they will jointly develop a a standard interface for telematics devices in cars and trucks.

Telematics is the sending and receiving of information to and from vehicles and their drivers via wireless networks in real-time. Most vehicles today are equipped with electronics that are able to capture relevant information about the vehicle's activities and performance.
AirIQ said its agreement with Delphi will allow its telematics devices to provide customers with information about how their vehicles are performing, including trouble codes and on-board vehicle system monitoring.
The agreement is a strategic step toward developing industry standards for accessing vehicle information for the telematics marketplace, AirIQ said, and provides a foundation for increasing use of telematics to enhance vehicle performance, productivity, convenience, and safety for passengers and fleet owners.
